Everyone has felt anxiety at one time or another. It may just be a little twinge or might be an overwhelming feeling that seems to last forever. Anxiety management is easier to deal with if you properly understand it. However, anxiety management or the short-term relief of anxiety symptoms, is now possible.

In order to manage anxiety, you must first assess your behavior. You need to ask yourself just how severe is the anxiety? And are you modifying your life because of the anxiety? If you find out that your anxiety symptoms are unnecessary or that your anxiety is causing problems, you need to make some changes.

Anxiety management is easier than you might think. First, try doing some simple exercises. A good physical workout, even steady walking, helps produce endorphins that help to calm us. A good diet is particularly important in anxiety management. Both alcohol and drugs can increase the effects of anxiety. Therefore, it is important to cut back on things like caffeine and alcohol. Sweets can also cause anxiety levels to increase.

Another step in anxiety management is deep breathing. This helps to oxygenate the blood, thereby instantly reducing anxiety. Deep breathing can even be done in public without others noticing. Meditation is also very useful in managing anxiety. A quiet, restful place is great for meditation. Sit comfortably with the lights off and close your eyes. Concentrate on one thing, such as your breathing. Or you can concentrate on several words that mean something to you or a peaceful image.

What does a dental anxiety management clinic involve?

I have just received a letter saying that the appointment I was referred for is to see the oral surgeon, but it is also an anxiety management clinic... What is this? I ve never even heard of this before!
Answer :
Perhaps another word for sedation dentistry to help you cope with the referral. Less rush and more time to explain and talk you through the treatment perhaps. Relaxation techniques is another possibility.

Did you suffer from high anxiety levels when your own dentist tried to treat you?
This will have been mentioned in the referral letter that he wrote to the hospital. Either way it looks as if they are going to accommodate your fears.

What simple things can I do to improve my stress/anxiety management?

I deal with a lot of stress & anxiety on a regular basis. I m just one of those people that over analyze everything! I wish it wasn t so difficult to deal with daily stress so any information that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Answer :
I find that doing regular excersize in the form of something slightly aggressive such as boxing, karate, mountain biking ETC really helps me feel in control & less stressed out.

Also try not to give yourself reasons to be stressed in the first place (I am obviously not aware of your own circumstances & why you are anxious but simply speaking from my own experience) Try to keep your finances in good order, don t become deeply involved with friends & colleagues dramas ETC.

I think diet is really important for people with anxiety issues as well, I can honestly tell you I feel stressed out for days if I eat cheese. If all else fails I think Bachs rescue remedy is brilliant stuff & it has helped me many times.
Question :

How do you find a reputable psychologist for anxiety management?

I m looking through my insurance carrier s site but just see names and phone numbers. Do they really want me to just pick a name from the list like that?

Is there any way to read about the psychologist s personality/expertise prior to making an appointment?
Answer :
best way is to always talk with your PCP first (family doctor). they will make the referrals and get you on the right track.
