Question :

Please C/C on my poem: One of the last Saturdays at a Boarding School?

Can you please comment and critieque my poem

Early in the day
A round of tennis we did play
God, Susie looked nice
Waking up my day with such spice

Then we parted our way
We had so much to do that day
Science project for me
And art for she

I got back from science and went to eat
But not next to Susan did I have a seat
Usually I ate with friends from The Zoo
These days are ending lets take a swim in the pool

So we changed into our swim shorts
To get ready for our sports
We put on our tees of green
Proud of the Band we wanted to be seen

Into the water we did plunge
Competitive we were, so we lunged
Who got to the end the first
A lot of times determined by a burst

We got out of the water and then did dry
Walked to South and said good-bye
Then I had to take a hard look
At all of my books

Advanced Chemistry, Differential Equations, time did fly
Hours come and gone, then I took a sigh
Into the hall
The plebe boy did call

Notice Sirs, Supper Roll Call in twenty minutes, Sirs.
Put clothes over my boxers in a blur
Up and down all did concur

Notice Sirs, SRC in five minutes, Sirs, he did say
Out of the door walked I that day
To my platoon in squads of three
The squad leaders gave reports to me

We saluted, then I executed an about face
And marched I to my place
Saluted our Commander did I
To my report he did reply

Up and down the chain
Commands were assured with the same refrain
Company.PlatoonSquad tensch- hut
Shoes clicked together, the air was cut

RightRight.Right Face
Onetwo, we looked at a new place
What is our treasure?
ZOO FOREVER!

Who is better than the rest?
SIR, BAND IS BEST!
Forward march! We started on the left
A cadence sounded our Exec in bass cleft

A one-hundred year tradition up the stairs jump
It caused our hearts to pump
Stairs worn down in a smooth curve
In winter it takes some nerve

We were The Band into the Mess
The Zoo no less
My platoon I guided to line three
Sooner to eat said me

All around the table at parade rest
I swelled with pride at The Band we were the best
I called to attention for a prayer
Snapped together every shoe there

I said the standard prayer: God Bless this food because it sure as hell needs it.
Seats and all did sit
But I gobbled up my food not wanting to stay
Picked up my tray

Put it down on the conveyer line
Prolies to take care of it would be fine
Walked over to a Court table
A Zoobie, I knew, I had the label

Hey Susie lets grab a shake
We got ours at The Shack and sat next to the lake
In a huge bench built like a ring
Into our hearts we did sing

We did not ask questions like lovers do
I knew why, I had a clue
What is the meaning of life?
Why is there so much strife?

Are we doing all we should?
I would do more if I could.
What will life have in store?
Approach it hard dont be bored.

Around and around we went
Questions to each other we sent
The sun lowered in the sky
To the Ring we said goodbye

We walked hand in hand to the dance
But it was not a prelude to romance
I thought her heart belonged to Kim
Yet I did not hate him

But she was on loan for months of nine
For a while I could pretend she was mine
Walked we to the dance
Thanks to the Zoo there was that chance

For a couple hours we had some fun
Walked back early to avoid the run
Walked over to the lake
My heart did ache

We leisurely hugged and kissed
Those days I surely miss
Bye Susie I said at the Court door
Even though I wanted more

Back to South
I did pout
Brushed my teeth, combed my hair
Looked around, Susie was not there

The bell did ring
The Call Boy did sing
A quick inspection to the hall of mine
We were in good shape we would be fine

I went to a room of two
First year they were in The Zoo
They started off with baby fat
We took care of that

They turned into fine men, but young
I was proud of what they had become
Who is better than the rest?
Sir, Band is Best.

Sweet dreams, guys.
They climbed into beds
Turning off their lights I supplied
They laid down their heads

I thought about Sunday
While Christians at church, I would play
Basketball with Muslims, Jews
Hindus, Buddhists a strange crew

Then the parade on the field
The Zoo together as my shield
Hoped I see Susie carrying a flag
But an inner voice was beginning to nag

These days are ending rather soon
Ill be leaving this cocoon
Everyone going their own ways
We all knew it we did say

So no more Susan unless life is strange
Across the globe we would range
Life will play out as it will
I shut my eyes and was still
Answer :
Interesting poem...But I really liked it!.
Question :

Please explain how assonance is used in this poem (specific lines)?

Late August was a pressure drop,
rain, a sob in the body,

a handful of air
with a dream in it,

summer was desperate
to paradise itself with blackberry

drupelets and swarms, everything
polychromed, glazed, sprinkler caps

gushing, the stars like sweat
on a boxer s skin. A voice

from the day says
Tax cuts

for the rich or scratch
what itches or it s a sax

from Bitches Brew,
and I m a fool

for these horns
and hues, this maudlin

light. It s a currency of feeling
in unremembered March.

There s a war on and snow in the
city
where we ve made our desire stop

and start. In the dying school of Bruce
I m the student who still believes

in the bad taste of the beautiful
and the sadness of songs

made in the ratio
of bruise for bruise.
Answer :
sob in the body uses the short o sound in sob and body to give assonance to this line. To paradise itself with blackberry uses the two short a s in paradise to rhyme with the short a in blackberry to give this unusual line assonance. for the rich or scratch/what itches or it s a sax again uses short the a as well as the ch sound to join the two lines in a phrase that would become almost unmanageable to say out loud without that assonance. made in the ratio uses the long a in made and ratio.
Question :

Can you please rate my rap/poem lyrics?

i honestly think this one is horrible but i don t care i want criticism

"Life as a Hood Soldier"
Waking up every morning just questioning god
wondering why all his actions are just kinda odd
seeing everyone shooting at each other
just because everyone is in a different squad
every time walking down the street seeing another mom cry
cause her only son has just died
knowing every man born in the hood is a soldier
being stuck in battle as if were tied
getting being dragged into war based on color
but we try not to mind cause of the big dollars
not caring who we hurt or kill
as long as were just standing taller
thinking life is just based on respect
only thing we wanna do is go out and collect
just making sure we get our cut
cause we hate to give what everyone else expects
even knowing we might not get much older
but we don t care we just want that rag resting on our shoulder
feeling like a boxer going out on his last fight
not knowing this might be our last day as a hood soldier

Just getting lost in our own mind
thinking that everything is just gonna be fine
till you hear that your homie just got murdered
making the only thing go through your mind is that someone is gonna have to die
but really deep down you discover you just wanna escape
cause as were getting older were getting tired of all the rape
just wanting to be at piece and hang up the badges
and just sit back and smoke on a little nice cape
thinking back wishing we didn t get dragged into that
of our life of full combat
trying not to remember of all the horrible things
but its just to hard to forget beating a brat with a bat
wishing we can just take all of this back
but we cant cause we have to live with the fact
and just learn from experience
so we can come back with a different impact
even when the days feel like there getting colder
don t just sit back and begin to smolder
you have to get up and redefine your life
as a hood soldier

wanting now to be a general of the new kind
to show them that they have to use there own mind
cause following someone else s ideals of war
is just bad enough as being blind
so we just gotta work together to change this soldier life
cause im just tired of this life of strife
sitting back wondering if the song Changes is ever gonna come true
cause im still dreaming of a day when no one even has to use a knife
but we just gotta keep trying
cause im tired of seeing all the kids dying
but there is a better way of living this soldier life
were we dont have to keep our mothers crying
so we just need to stand strong and tall
and try not to fall
back into life of colored murder
cause we just wanna be better than them all
so we just need to come together and change life as a hood soldier
cause ain t no other life that is colder
and so we need to help this war of mankind
to redefine the life as a hood soldier
